Month of Mary

The month of May is here. May is the month of Mary. Have you ever gotten mad at your mother or your step-mother? Did you ever wish you could talk to a different mother? Mary is our mother in heaven. Jesus gave her to John at the foot of the cross but at the same time he was giving her to all of us. Do you ever talk to Mary? As your mother in heaven, you can ask her to pray for you and to bring you closer to her Son, Jesus. It’s what she does best! If you have never thought about it, try it out. Ask her to pray for you.

This is a great time to renew your prayers with a Hail Mary, the Memorare or any other prayer to Mary that you know. Look up a new one! I like to say a Hail Mary every day in May as a special way to honor Mary and to remind myself that she hears and helps if you ask.

Have you ever been to a May crowning of Mary? Do you have a May alter? When I was younger, it was so exciting to make a crown of flowers and put it on our statue of Mary. I would put a special table cloth on the table, put out candles and a bouquet of flowers. Try it! It doesn’t have to be very big but it will be a great addition to your month of May.
