Reconciliation

This Lent, we have been asked to take a deeper look at ourselves and our relationship with God. In taking that look, we can see both our strengths and areas we need to work on. As I look at the past few months, I see that there have been moments that I have chosen to turn away from God. I have turned away from God by not trusting in Him or by avoiding opportunities where God may have been leading me closer to Himself. There’s a tendency too, to forget about our relationship with the Lord when all is well in our lives. For me, the busyness of daily life seems to take over and can distract me from taking time for God. I allow so many other things get placed before prayer and my relationship with God.

It is important to consider the ways that we have fallen short…done less than our best…taken the easy way out…put ourselves before others. We need to be aware of the ways in which our decisions and choices affect our relationship with God and others. The important thing to remember is that we can turn to God with our struggles and weaknesses. He already knows what we are going through and is waiting with open arms to welcome us back into His friendship. God’s enduring love for us will never end. Take some time this week to be reconciled with the Lord. Attend a parish reconciliation service or celebrate the sacrament of penance with a priest.
