Following God

I remember as a child playing follow the leader and how easy it was to follow. I didn’t question the leader. I didn’t wonder where we were headed. I just simply followed. Sometimes I feel it is too bad that I can’t do the same thing with God. He has called us to follow Him. However, I often find myself questioning where we are headed. Where am I following? It can be hard heading toward the unknown. Yet I have found that He has never led me astray. He has always taken me to a better place. I have also found that the more time I spend with Him the more clearly I see where he is leading me. In order to follow God we must first form a relationship with Him.

In this time of lent, we have been asked to draw ourselves closer to God. As we continue on this journey it is helpful to strengthen that relationship in order to follow God. It takes a lot of courage to follow God. There have been times in my life where I have been afraid to follow. There have been times when I was unsure of where I would end up. I am sure that Jesus’ disciples had some concerns as He called them to follow Him. Yet they stopped what they were doing and followed Him. There is something comforting about being in God’s presence that helps us to follow. I think back to those childhood memories of follow the leader and wish I could so easily follow God. I invite you to take the last few weeks of Lent to reflect upon how well you are following God. Are you ready to go where He is leading you?
