In 1983, after
over thirty years in the present building, the sisters of Notre
Dame moved out of St. Mary’s Parish Convent in Menasha. Two
Christian Brothers, Dan Landowski and Richard Roller, FSC moved
into the convent with a vision to develop a faith community and
called it the La Salle Center. They provided hospitality, faith
formation and youth retreats. Brother Richard continued until 1999.
The
La Salle Center was supported by the residents of the Fox River
Valley. The Center provided youth retreats and ministry services.
The Center was purchased from St. Mary’s Parish. During Brother
Richard's stay, various lay people helped him direct the center.
Jennifer Plath was the last person to help direct La Salle Center.
In 1999, Sister Mary Jo Kirt,
OSF became the Administrator. Shortly, thereafter, the name of the
center was changed to the Mount Tabor Center. The new name reflects
the mission of the youth retreat facility as a place of transformation.
In
2003, Eden Foord became the Administrator. Today the Mount Tabor
Center serves more than 3000 people annually with youth retreats
as its primary focus. In fact, Mount Tabor Center is the only staffed
youth retreat center in the Diocese of Green Bay.
